Just a four-hour flight from New Zealand, the Cook Islands offer a tropical escape full of turquoise waves, golden shores, coral reefs vibrant with color, and the warmest island hospitality. Crossing the International Dateline adds a special touch—New Zealand is the first to welcome the New Year, while the Cook Islands are among the last. So in a way, you’re traveling through time!

For me, it was romantic, adventurous, and unforgettable. Here are just a few of the highlights you can experience in this Pacific paradise.

Whales, Waves & Ocean Magic

From our private porch overlooking the ocean, I saw my very first whale rise from the water—a breathtaking moment I captured on video. The Cook Islands’ crystal-clear waters teem with marine life, from playful turtles to colorful schools of fish. Snorkeling and diving here are experiences you’ll never forget.

Lizards, Legends & Surprises

The Cook Islands are home to little lizards that usually scurry away—but one bold visitor crawled right up my arm and nipped my neck while I was dancing in the sand! Locals told me an intriguing old wives’ tale: if a lizard bites your neck, your enemies will be kept away. True or not, it’s a story I’ll always remember!

Scooters, Waterfalls & Island Adventures

The best way to explore the Cook Islands is by scooter. We rode through charming villages, visited hidden waterfalls, and discovered various resorts and beach bars along the way. Everywhere we went, happy hours, live bands, and dancing in the sand awaited.

Snorkeling, Diving & Fishing

The Cook Islands are an ocean lover’s dream. While my husband and brother-in-law went diving, I enjoyed snorkeling and watching turtles glide past. You can also take a glass-bottom boat ride or head out for deep-sea fishing for an exhilarating day on the water.

Friendly Island Dogs

The Cook Islands are full of friendly dogs who love to hang around the resorts. A sweet pup stayed outside our door the entire trip—probably because I kept sneaking him bones from dinner! He became our little guardian during our stay.

Island Life & Romance

Between fresh seafood, open-air restaurants, and nightly music, every moment felt magical. Whether sitting on the porch, heading out for scooter rides around the island, or laughing on the dance floor with our feet in the sand, the Cook Islands gave me memories I’ll treasure forever.
