New Zealand: My Part-Time Home
New Zealand is an exhilarating paradise with stunning landscapes and friendly people. The local culture is always on display. You can see it in traditional Māori performances and at weekend markets filled with artisan crafts.
Picture snow-capped peaks, mysterious glowworm caves, rugged coastlines, and steaming hot springs. Together, they feel like a love letter from Mother Nature. Each beach has its own story, shaped by the tides and the beauty around it.
For me, this country is a home away from home. Every visit brings cherished memories and exciting adventures. To share my connection, I’ve written my Grandma Wendy stories. Through them, you’ll see my personal journey, my family roots, and my love for Aotearoa—the Land of the Long White Cloud.
37 Beaches & Coastal Wonders
During the COVID lockdown, I began a quest across the North Island. Along the way, I found 37 beaches stretching from Auckland to Doubtless Bay. I also documented the scenery and the different ecosystems.
Each beach offered something unique. Some were wild and windswept. Others were calm and peaceful. As a result, the experience was both thrilling and soothing. We sailed through pristine waters framed by towering mountains.
Before the pandemic, I also cruised through the Sounds of the South Island. There, light and shadow played across cliffs and waterfalls. The sight was otherworldly, creating one of the world’s most breathtaking views.

The Magic of Manuka Honey
New Zealand’s Manuka honey is world-famous. It soothes sore throats, boosts immunity, and delights with its rich taste.
In addition, it is valued for its antibacterial qualities and many health benefits. Visiting a Manuka farm was unforgettable. I saw the hives buzzing with life. Best of all, I tasted honey straight from the comb.

Kontiki & Drone Fishing Adventures
In Doubtless Bay, I tried the Kiwi tradition of Kontiki fishing. A GPS-powered torpedo pulled a long line across the ocean, which was thrilling to watch.
At the same time, it was fascinating to see modern technology combined with an old fishing method. We waited on the beach for its return. In just 45 minutes, it brought back 14 snapper. We filleted them on the spot and enjoyed the freshest feast possible.

Hot Springs & Geothermal Wonders
New Zealand’s geothermal wonders are awe-inspiring. Rotorua has bubbling mud pools. Taupo has calm, glassy lakes. Both remind visitors of the earth’s power.
Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula is one of my favorites. It is more than a hot spring—it is also a social gathering spot. Friends meet here to relax, laugh, and share stories.
As the tide goes out, you can dig your own heated pool in the sand. Warm water rises beneath your feet while cliffs and greenery surround you. With ocean waves splashing nearby, it feels like a natural spa retreat.

You might taste world-class wines in lush vineyards. You can also witness the haka and dive into Māori traditions. Finally, glowworm caves sparkle like an underground galaxy, adding even more magic.
